The NEW CHAPTER Grüner Veltliner 2024 by Markus Huber and Lenz Maria Moser has been awarded 95 points by James Suckling – the highest rating this wine has ever received. It marks a milestone for the duo redefining Grüner Veltliner as a global ambassador grape.

VIENNA, November 2024.
It’s a chapter worthy of its name: NEW CHAPTER stands for the evolution of Austrian Grüner Veltliner – toward a wine that confidently joins the league of international white wines.
The recent 95-point rating from renowned wine critic James Suckling sends a signal far beyond Austria. His tasting note reads: “A wine inspired by white Bordeaux, with a fascinating harmony of bright orchard fruit – especially apples and peaches – fine tannins and subtle notes of toast and vanilla from the oak. Medium-bodied and flawlessly balanced on the palate; its freshness highlights a pronounced, stony minerality that lingers in a very long, polished finish. Aged in oak and stainless steel. From organically grown grapes. Vegan.”

This description hits the mark: elegance and power, freshness and depth – qualities that make NEW CHAPTER a strong representative of Austria’s new generation of wines.
Lenz Maria Moser explains: “With our mantra ‘Tomorrow’s Grüner Today’, we want to offer our fans today the very style we believe represents the future of this noble variety. Simply a wine to love. It starts with the bold design and ends with effortless enjoyment. Simply self-explanatory and unique.”

Two Families, One Mission
When two winemakers with centuries-old traditions join forces, the result is something extraordinary. Lenz Maria Moser, descendant of a 15-generation Austrian winemaking family, and Markus Huber, whose winery in the Traisental dates back to 1648, founded their joint project LENZMARK in 2020. Their vision: to reposition Grüner Veltliner as a global ambassador of Austrian wine culture. Both know that greatness comes not only from personal success but from the ability to represent an entire region.

“Every year is a chance to improve” – this credo has guided them since their first harvest. The fifth edition, the 2024 vintage, embodies this spirit: a wine that has overcome challenges – frost, rain, cool weather – growing stronger through vineyard experience and cellar finesse. Markus Huber adds: “2024 was a challenging year – but with passion, experience, and sensitivity, we were able to coax an exceptionally fine, elegant wine from it that represents Grüner Veltliner at its best.”

From Limestone to Character – Deep-Rooted Terroir
The NEW CHAPTER Grüner Veltliner comes from organically farmed vineyards in the Traisental, about 80 kilometers west of Vienna. On 120 hectares, the grapes thrive in a landscape often compared to Burgundy: gentle east-facing terraces, sheltered slopes, forests protecting from westerly weather, and chalky, limestone-rich soils – Austria’s only limestone region perfectly suited for Grüner Veltliner.

Here emerges a wine that expresses the interplay of soil, climate, and craftsmanship at the highest level. The wine is aged partly in stainless steel and partly in large acacia and oak barrels.
The result: a fascinating balance of freshness, minerality, and fine spice – achieved through the “Art of Blending.” Each year, only Markus’s best vineyard parcels are selected, following the château principle, to create the unique style. As Robert Mondavi once said, “Making good wine is a skill, fine wine is an art” – something that surely applies to NEW CHAPTER as well.

Grüner Is More Than a Color – It’s an Attitude
“Fashion fades – Grüner stays.” What began as a charming play on words has become a statement. NEW CHAPTER Grüner Veltliner stands for consistency in a constantly changing world – for authenticity instead of pretension, for quality over quantity.

It’s like a perfectly tailored blazer – timeless, elegant, distinctive. Each sip expresses Austrian lifestyle: honest, full of character, and with a touch of nonchalance.

A Global Ambassador with Austrian Soul
Only a limited number of bottles are produced each year – in 0.75-liter and 1.5-liter magnums. Yet the impact is global: NEW CHAPTER is already available in over 35 countries – in top restaurants, at international wine merchants, and on the wine lists of prestigious establishments.

The philosophy follows the classic Bordeaux blending principle: the best parcels are combined into a harmonious cuvée. And perhaps, as they like to joke, there’s even “a homeopathic touch of other noble grape varieties” – just enough to add the depth that makes it unmistakable.

The NEW CHAPTER proves that Austrian Grüner Veltliner is no longer just a local favorite but a world citizen with character – a wine that can stand proudly alongside the great names from Sancerre, Bordeaux, or the Rheingau – and perhaps even outcharms them.
