Renowned winemakers Markus Huber and Lenz Maria Moser proudly present the new 2023 vintage of their Grüner Veltliner “New Chapter.” This exceptional creation not only sets new standards and represents an innovative approach harmoniously combining tradition and modernity – this year, the wine is also certified 100 percent organic for the first time.

VIENNA, August 2024. "When we say on every bottle: 'The green of tomorrow, today,' we mean it," says Markus Huber, who began redefining Grüner Veltliner with Lenz Maria Moser in 2019. The 2023 vintage is living proof that this innovative approach has succeeded. With full focus on this unique wine, crafted by the two equal partners, a masterpiece has emerged that delights wine lovers worldwide.

The "Chateau" Principle and the Unique Features of the New Vintage

The 2023 vintage is based on the "Chateau" principle – a method Lenz Maria Moser follows as a winemaker in China at Changyu, the fourth largest winery in the world. Grapes from the best locations of Markus Huber in the Traisental are blended into an incomparable wine. "It is the combination of elegant fruit and an immense power that makes our new Grüner Veltliner so special," explains Lenz Maria Moser. A slight hint of oak and a subtle spiciness from other grapes give the wine its unique style.

Elegance and Power in Perfect Harmony

Markus Huber describes the 2023 vintage as extraordinary: “2023 was an excellent year. A cool summer with slow ripening was followed by a golden autumn.” This allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly, and the wine reflects this in a wonderful harmony between complexity and elegance. Huber: “A great vintage that is already a pleasure – but also has the potential for long storage.”

100% Organic – The Future of Viticulture

The fact that the wine this year also states on the label that it is 100% organic is no coincidence: While grapes were still purchased in previous years, only grapes from Huber’s vineyards were used for New Chapter 2023 – and these have been certified organic for seven years. Austria is generally considered a pioneer country in terms of organic farming: In the last five years, the organically certified area in Austria has almost doubled, with 24 percent of the total vineyard area certified organic in 2023, making it a world leader among major wine-producing countries. Moser: “In the long run, we expect wine from organic grapes to taste better as well. Produced more healthily, better for everyone. We assume that top viticulture will be certified organic in ten years anyway.“

New Packaging – A Strong Signal

In addition to the wine itself, the new packaging also impresses – the beautifully designed bottle and the striking design of the label underline the uniqueness of "New Chapter" and make it a highlight in any wine rack.

A New Chapter for the Whole World

And not only there. “Our goal,” says Lenz Maria Moser, “is to make Grüner Veltliner known worldwide from Austria.” The 2023 vintage is already enjoying great popularity in international markets such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Japan. The winemakers are particularly proud of the listing in the business class of “Emirates” on European routes.

“We are delighted with the positive feedback from around the world,” adds Markus Huber. “It is an honor to see our wine represented in so many renowned markets and to know that our Grüner Veltliner is appreciated worldwide.”

A Sustainable Legacy

Credit where credit is due: “Markus,” praises Moser his companion “reminds me very much of my grandfather Prof. Dr. Lenz Moser, Austria’s great winemaker and innovator. Because he takes excellent care of his vineyards and ensures that we get the best possible grapes for our project.”

A Wine That Enthralls

The 2023 vintage embodies everything Markus and Lenz wished for from “New Chapter.” The floral scent combined with a slight spiciness of racy Grüner Veltliner opens the journey of this fine wine. Aromas of grapefruit, cassis, and exotic notes dominate and lead to a complex, seductive, and inviting finale. On the palate, this impression continues, with the mineral note and the firm melt enhancing the harmony. The length of the aftertaste invites more.

“Perhaps the fourth vintage is the best we have produced so far,” concludes Moser. “We look forward to the future and to continuing this exciting path of Grüner Veltliner in the world.”
